Markets: Phuket Indy Market

The Phuket Indy Market is a creative, hip market just off of Dibuk Road in the Limelight Avenue complex. The market is fresh, fun and young. A lot of teenagers hold small market stalls peddling their creations.

The Phuket Indy Market is held every Thursday and Friday from 4pm to 11pm and features unique crafts and handmade goods, typical street food vendors, some stalls selling second hand and vintage clothing plus a few t-shirt stalls and others with various bric-a-brac. Live music is also a showcase of the Phuket Indy Market, and many local musicians strut their stuff on the market's tiny stage.

The market has grown in popularity over the last few years, but it is still relatively small and superbly clean. A wander through Phuket Indy Market only takes around 20 minutes, however, it is well worth the stroll.

The wide variety of food vendors at Phuket Indy Market provide cheap and tasty treats such as papaya salad, crispy gyoza, piping hot soups, traditional Thai sweets and Thai-style chicken kebabs. An array of beverages include absolutely delicious old-style tea and coffee as well as fresh juices and sugary drinks. There is a cocktail booth at the market that sells powerful drinks for 100 baht, too.

The local Thai teenagers love the Phuket Indy Market, and perhaps that is why the atmosphere is so light and fun. The organizers of the Phuket Indy Market promote individuality and have done a lot to bring Thai traditional festivals, international events and public awareness of worldly events to the stage.
